Review: Sleepaway Girls by Jen Calonita

Welcome to Whispering Pines camp!

When Sam’s best friend gets her first boyfriend, she isn’t ready to spend the summer as the third wheel. So she makes the first bold move in her life and applies to be a counselor-in-training (CIT) at Whispering Pines camp in the New York Catskills. What she doesn’t realize is that it isn’t going to be all fun and games. Will Sam’s decision to come to Whispering Pines be one she will regret or one she will never forget?

Sleepaway Girls is a fun read. Sam is a great character. Throughout the story you really see her character growth. The Sleepaway Girls are a diverse group of girls: Em is the bookworm, Grace is completive and Court is boy crazy. The “villain” of the story, Ashley, is perfectly written. She is a queen that needs to be knocked off her throne. The feud between Sam/The Sleepaway Girls and Ashley was interesting and entertaining at times. The Sleepaway Girls makes camp seem cool for those who have never been and makes past campers remember the fun they had and would want to go back!

Nice review. This sounds really fun, and Jen is a sweetheart. I've never been to camp but I do like to watch things that happen at camp...time I read something that takes place at camp.
